Ratios with tape diagrams
On a camping trip there are two girls for every three boys if there are 15 boys how many girls are there fill in the tape diagram represent your answer in a complete sentence
Hello,
A tape diagram is simply a rectangular strip divided into squares, one square for each number for the the boys, and one square for each number for the girls. For the ratio of 2:3 girls to boys, a tape diagram would look like a small two square rectangle on top labeled girls and a 3 square rectangle under it labeled boys.
Then expand that for the 15 boys (3 X 5 is 15) and you will have a tape strip for boys with 15 squares. You would likewise have to expand the girls' strip by multiplying it by 5 as well to make the ratio equal. Try it and see what you come up with for your final ratio!
