Use dimensional analysis to get the units right. You will either be given conversion factors or maybe have the opportunity to look them up.
The one I remember is that 1 kg = 2.205 pounds.
To do the conversion, write out a series of operations, including the units. You'll notice that the trick is to have a series of fractions whose value is 1. Since the value is 1, it is legal to multipy by some thing else without affecting the value.
So:
43 lb * (1 kg / 2.205 lb) * (1000 gm / 1 kg)
You'll notice that the units can be cancelled---just like any fraction---so you wind up with:
43 * (1 / 2.205) * (1000 gm / 1)
Expand and simplify and you'll have your answer in grams
