Ellen needed 3 3/4 cups of brown sugar to make a batch of 24 cookies. She also needed 1 2/3 cups of water. How much sugar and water will Ellen need to use to make 1 dozen cookies?

The fractions that you have help make 2 dozen, 24 cookies, divide the mixed fraction for sugar by 2 and this will provide your answer. Remember that mixed numbers become improper fractions when dividing:

3 3/4=> (3×4+3)/4=>15/4

15/4÷ 2/1 (cross multiply) =>(15×1)/(4×2)

=15/8
