Aaisha wants to know what mark and percentage she has got overall in a Chemistry module. She needs 61% to pass.

She’s already got 68% from her coursework which was worth 40%. She has just done her final exam which is worth 60%. The exam was out of 110 marks.

She needs 61% to pass.

How many marks and what percentage does she need to get 61% overall in the chemistry module?

.4 represents the weight of the coursework, and .6 for the final exam

thus

.4* (percentage score on coursework)+.6 (percentage score on final exam)=.61 which is the passing grade

.4* (.68)+.6x-.61

.272+.6x=.61

.61-.272=.6x

x=.5633

She needs to get the 56.33% percentage right, and thus if its out of 110, she needs to get a score of .5633*110=which is about 61.96=62.
