Can I use a magazine name in a book?

I am writing a novel and I need to know if I can use the name of a magazine. I want the main character to work for a specific magazine (Backstage) as a photographer.

Yes you can use the name of the magazine in a book. The title of the magazine should be in italics when you talk about it. For example you can say: John wrote many great articles in Backstage so he was promoted.

You can, but I would actually steer away from having it be the employer of your main character. If you say anything that could be seen as less than favorable about Backstage, they could at the very least send you a "cease and desist". Might as well give yourself carte blanche and use a fake name - say whatever you like!
