I'm assuming we're talking about the French & Indian war. England paid the immediate bill for the cost of the war, but sought restitution from the American colonies afterwards in the form of higher taxes and fees on certain services and goods. Some of these taxes were so onerous, such as the Stamp Act and the tax on tea, that they became the basis for starting the American Revolution.
