We essentially are being asked to use the density (0.74 g/ml) to convert 1.0 kg to a volume in mls. We can easily do this by using dimensional analysis, as follows:
1.0 kg x 1000 g/kg x 1 ml/0.74 g = 1352.35 mls = 1400 mls (to 2 significant figures)
If you want to do this in steps, it would look like this:
1.0 kg x 1000 g/kg = 1000 g
1000 g x 1 ml/0.74 g = 1352.35 mls = 1400 mls
