The difference of three times a number and 4 is -19
"Times" tells you here to multiply. "Difference" tells you here to subtract what's ahead and "is" means use an equal sign.
(3*(n) - 4) = -19
3n - 4 = -19
3n - 4 + 4 = -19 + 4
3n = - 15
3n / 3 = -15 / 3
n = -5 is the answer that you seek.
