Patriots definitely saw King George III as out of touch with the colonies. Taxes on colonists were being raised to cover a British war that was fought on American soil with American people. This is just one example of American patriots' complaints against the crown. They felt that with such disinterest and such little communication with the people, the monarchy did not have any legitimate claim to govern them and wanted themselves. Some may have seen him as a tyrant because of his unjust treatment of them, and a few may even have found him terrifying because of the size of the British army and its apparent ability to easily crush any uprising.
