I would read "All the Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr. This novel won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, is set in WWII, and the main character is a young French girl who is blind. In addition to being one of the most incredible novels I've ever read, it will very effectively demonstrate how to write a blind character. He focuses on the senses of touch, smell, and hearing a lot. After all, isn't that how someone without sight would experience the world?
