Hi there. Although I've not read The Seven Basic Plots, I can tell you that writers are by no means bound to any certain set of rules. Nothing in the creative world (whether it be art, film, photography, etc.) is set in stone. Although there are basic foundational principles for establishing a story such as character development, story progression and grammar/sentence structure, the world of creativity is limitless. In a day and age where literally anyone can write a book and post it for sale on Amazon, there are now many new and fresh stories with various plots hitting the online shelves on a daily basis. If you have an interesting plot, create a storyline, develop it and then write it! You should never feel limited based on someone telling you that it doesn't fit into a certain mold of how stories are made. If you can write an interesting story which engages the reader from cover to cover, there's no reason not to share this story regardless of its plot. I hope this helps! Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!
