The sum of two numbers is 41. The larger number is one less than twice the smaller number. What are the numbers?

The first number think of as X. The other (2x-1) because it is two and one less than two times the smaller. Simply add the two together.

x +2x - 1=41

Add one to both sides. That equals 3X equals 42. Divide both sides by three and you get 14.
