Footnotes depend largely on which format of writing you're using. If you're using Chicago Style citations for an academic essay, then out the footnote at the end of the sentence. If you're not writing an academic essay, then the use of footnotes depends on preference. Usually, you would put the footnote at the end of the sentence if the information in the footnote is about the sentence as a whole. If the information in the footnote is for a specific word (you might have seen this in Shakespearean plays) then put the footnote directly after the word that the information pertains too.
