Vital, I think! However, the most important thing is to consider your audience!! I catchy title may not always be the best if your audience is a group of academics, as opposed to teenagers or young adults. Your audience may be women, mothers, business people, athletes, etc. Several rules in my opinion:
1) The title should not be too long and drawn out. One- or two-word titles are often very effective because they stick in people's memory
2) It should describe or symbolize the theme of the book in some way
3) It should include a key word or two that appeals to your audience
