Which language is harder for English-speaking individuals, Chinese or Japanese? Why is that one more challenging?

It depends a bit on what you are interested in studying - for example conversation or reading and writing, and what you’re goals are. I speak and teach Japanese as a native English speaker and can tell you that grammatically Japanese is relatively easy compared to English, pronunciation can be difficult at the start but once you get it is pretty easy, and reading and writing can be tough for English speakers to learn. There are two phonetic alphabets and then many Chinese characters to learn as well.

I don't speak chinese, so cannot speak to that well, sorry.
