In Paris 2001 - 17 : Accent Neutralization / Self-Confidence
We are advancing from the ethnocentric term, "ESL," to "EAL," or English as an additional language. Many English language learners speak multiple languages and in other cases, it is not true that English is a person's "second" language.
We are also encouraging people to be less concerned over losing the charm of their mother tongue accent. We only need to "neutralize" an accent to the degree we are well understood by the native speakers.
Cheers!
