Alternative to vs "Alternative for"?

I'm wondering whether there is a difference between these two expressions. I never know which one to use. Google seems to return the same amount of results for both, so I suppose there might be a difference. > 1. What are the alternatives for this project? 2. What are the alternatives to this project?

Both are correct but they have different meanings. The alternatives for this project means we are doing this project. We can complete this project by method 1 or method 2 or method 3. These are the alternatives for this project; different ways of achieving the same goal, which is completing this project.

Alternatives to this project means we may do this project and we may not. We may choose an alternative instead of doing this project. We might address the problem with a different solution other than this project. This is an alternative to this project. I hope that helps.
