You are correct. The “I” is implied, much as “you” in implied in an imperative sentence. The clauses could be separated into two simple sentences by replacing the implied word. Therefore, it is an independent clause.

Hi Angel! I can't find confirmation of this anywhere, and I am trying to prepare kids for the CLEP test. Everything else I see says that the only understood subject is "you." It appears that "I" can only be implied, but it is informal, and it can't be used in any professional writing. Help!09/16/22
