It depends how much time and effort you plan on putting into it. German is far more similar to English than it is to Spanish, so knowing German won't necessarily help you learn Spanish. I took years of Spanish in elementary and high school and forgot most of it because I didn't practice; however, I lived in Spain for two years and became fluent from having to use it every day. The best way to learn is to practice regularly with a native or fluent speaker.

Learning a new language always depends on the learner's motivation, effort, and the time he or she devotes to the acquisition of said language. I am a native speaker of English, and I have studied both German and Spanish. I think that speaking German is helpful in learning Spanish, in that there are some similar sounds AND gender exists in both languages. That is one of the most difficult things for a native speaker of English to grasp, so it is very advantageous to already understand that concept as you approach a romance language, like Spanish.06/10/19
