There are several ways to improve your English writing. Some of them might surprise you!
- Read English books and other materials. This will expose you to new vocabulary and grammar structures that you might never have been able to understand or use before. As you get used to more and more of these, you can practice them and they will start to show up in your writing.
- Use a thesaurus. This is a book that gives you words that are similar in meaning to a word you are thinking of using in your writing. This will prevent you from using the same words over and over again.
- Get into a regular habit of practicing your writing. Whether it is once a week or even every day if you can manage it, practice is crucial. Some great ways to do this are to look up random questions such as "if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why" or "who has impacted your life the most and why". I often have students answer these kinds of questions. Set yourself a time limit to answer the question if you want, and free write for that amount of time, writing down whatever you can think of. Make it as long or as short as you want, but of course, the longer the writing sample, the more opportunities to practice in most cases. Just don't feel like you have to write multiple pages about each question!
- Once you have done a few of these writing prompts, or even at the same time, have somebody who knows English well (preferably as a first language) go through them with you step by step, sentence by sentence. They can give you suggestions not only on grammar, but how to make the writing itself sound better.
I hope some of these suggestions help! Please let me know if you have any further questions about this topic!
