Free radicals can make mitochondria become dysfunctional and the cell need to get rid of. They can also induce apoptosis and form degenerative diseases like cancer, stroke, arthritis, etc.. Free radicals are produced naturally as part of normal oxidative metabolism and it's partly responsible for aging. We can reduce them by eating fruits that are high in antioxidants and avoids pollutants, tobacco, smoke, drugs and radiation.
