How has Asia escaped poverty?

Although they do have far to go, Asia has clearly made massive progress in the past 70 years and I want to understand how they did it. Especially places like India and Bangladesh where there are more 2 children families and people can afford education.

Asia has certainly made progress, yet there is still massive inequality in even the most Asian countries (as there is in the U.S). I previously worked in Yunnan Province, China, where access to running water and electricity is scarce. Despite the attention that large cities receive, there is still much work to be done in terms of poverty alleviation.
