Okay, let's break this down. An independent variable is one that is free from change by other things. An easy way to remember it is to think of Independence Day, when the United States became a separate country that could make its own rules. A dependent variable is the opposite of that.
So in this situation, the initial cost is the independent variable because it's the same no matter how many calls you make. The amount per text is dependent because it "depends" on how many texts you send.
So, the basic equation is Plan=(cost)+(cost per text)X(how many texts you send).
For example, Plan A=30+0.10T T=number of texts.
Once you have the two numbers you know in your equation, you can put the number of texts where the T is currently. Take number of texts, multiply by cost per text, then add it to the larger cost.
