What did human think when they decided to write the first script? Why did languages evolve to written and read and not just spoken and listened to?

The language had to evolve to keep the communication effective. Any new discovery needed to be registered. And before the speaking skill, the language used was the sign language, along with drawings. The written skill took many years to become effective, but thanks to that we can learn so much about ancient history and communicate so easily.
