Jane Addam's Hull House was one of the first, and most successful, reform efforts of the Progressive Era in the 20th century. As upper-class white women, Addams hoped that the Hull House workers would catalyze a reform movement that emphasized living and working amongst the people they were helping. Hull House not only worked for children and impoverished families, they worked for better wages, living conditions, and sanitation for the Chicago community.
