Donna teaches four groups of students, and her net earnings per month are $4,350.  Part A: If each student learns dance for the same number of hours, write an equation that can be used to calculate the number of hours each student learns dance in a month. (5 points) Part B: How many hours did each student learn dance each month? Show your work and justify each step. (5 points)

step 1     monthly rent + net earnings per month = total revenue per month     $450 + $4,350 = $4,800

 

step 2     Total $ revenue/per month divided by $/hour = number of hours per month = $4,800/$40 = 120 hours

 

step 3     let x = number of hours per month per student, then

 

     x = hours per month / (number of groups x students per group)

     x = 120h/m / (4gr/month x 5 students/group)

 

step 4     solving the equation in step 3, x = 120h/(4g/m x 5st/g) = 6 hours/st

 

proof: 5 students/group x 4 groups/month x 6 hours/student x $40/hour = $4,800
