During a stroke, blood flow to a particular region of the brain is cut off usually due to blood clots. Therefore, neurons (brain cells) are deprived of oxygen and will die not immediately prevented. When neurons die, the brain function of that area will be diminished. Usually when a person comes in to the emergency department with stroke them a medication called TPA, a protein that prevents blood clots, and thus, reverse the effect of stroke. Hope this helped.
