How can I help my friend improve her English? So far I've assigned books for her to read but I'm not sure if it's enough.

It can be super helpful to find some shows or movies to watch, starting with subtitles in her native language and slowly eliminating them. Not only can this help with improving listening skills but it will also help with becoming familiar with colloquial English.

Another thing to try is to make her read a book that she enjoyed reading in her native language, as she'll already know the general story line. Depending on her skill level comics can also be a great addition, as this genre is typically easier to comprehend (and more fun!).
