What you're asking about is a lingua franca--a language adopted as a common language between speakers whose native languages are different--but instead of adopting an existing language, you're wondering if we will ever create a separate, standard lingua franca specifically for the purpose of being a lingua franca.
I'm not sure, but I do think it would be wonderful if we did. It would avoid putting a particular existing language--and hence that language's culture/native-speaking countries--on an international pedestal and instead create a much more equitable linguistic and socio-political space.
Let's take this to the United Nations suggestion box!
