Hi!
We have to start by thinking about what the word "quotient" means. It is a result we get when we divide one number by another.
So we would write it as 12 / 2.
Next, the problem says that 12 / 2 is going to be subtracted from 36.
We can write our equation like this. We're going to use the letter x to represent the value that we want to calculate:
x = 36 - (12 / 2)
x = 36 - 6
x = 30

Hey! Lets solve this shall we ?
Quotient means division and subtracted means minus, right ? There are two ways you can write this:
12 ÷ 2 - 36 or (12 / 2) - 36
I hope this helped!
