Solution. Let apple =a and orange=o ,
Given : (1)3 each bag has twice as many apples as oranges that is, a = 2o
a - 2o = 0
(2) each bag contains 15 pieces of fruits that is,
a + o = 15
(3) truck delivers 63 bags of fruits that is,
Total fruits = 63*15 = 945
Number of apples delivered = ?
Substituting value of a (a=2o) from equation 1 in equation 2, we get :
a + o =15
2o + o=15
3o =15
o = 5
Therefore, number of oranges in 1 bag =5 , so
Number of oranges in 63 bags = 63*5 = 315 = total oranges
Thus, number of apples delivered = total fruits - total oranges
= 945 - 315
Answer = 630

In (1) where is the 3 coming from? Also, in the answer steps I've been given, there is a ratio within each bag containing 15 pieces of fruit of 2:3. I'm absolutely stumped as to how they came up with that. Any idea?05/05/19
