Depending on the grade level you are trying to teach there are multiple ways you can teach literature effectively. For example, if you are trying to teach a certian book to students who have an intermediate proficiency level, you can break down the text into chunks, have students read over the text themselves in a loud whisper so you can listen in on their pronounciation and also have them highlight words they either don't know or have questions on. Remember to promote higher order thinking, by asking students questions about the section they just read. This will give you, as the teacher, a better understanding if they understood what was read. If you are teaching lower proficiency students, then i suggest the use of lots of pictures, body movement when reading aloud, level appropriate books, as well as lots of group/pairs or entire class together work. I hope this helps a little. :)
