You become great in anything, the same way as you are great in your own native language: WITH PRACTICE! :)

Practice with friends, alone, in a group, with a tutor, practice and practice and practice!

Listen to the radio, the television, read books, speak with natives, take lessons, but most importantly, be patient and consistent!
