How to improve my conversational skills?

Over the past couple of months I've learned quite a bit of Farsi, but conversationally I haven't learned anything. Obviously I know the best way would be to speak it or have it be spoken around me a lot, but my dad, the only person who speaks it in my house, doesn't really like to talk in it, and I feel uncomfortable asking him. Skyping isn't practical for me at the moment sadly, otherwise I would have loved to do that with some of you. That being said, how can I improve conversation skills? I've been thinking about movies, but they tend to talk very fast so I'm not sure about that.

There are tons of Persians on Whats' app and Telegram who will appreciate practicing Persian (Farsi) in return for practicing their English with you. I have used both to help students of both Persian and English this way. These days, What's app works much better in Iran. The good thing with these apps is that you can leave a voice message at your convenience, and the other person will do the same--unlike Skype that you should both be online at the same time.
