English-Language-Learners-of-Spanish have difficulty with more than one issue. Reflexive verb forms and meanings, when to use regular or irregular verbs, conversational vs. academic (such as textbook/adult nonfiction and fiction) vocabulary choices, and when to use ser or estar, haber or tener or hacer in different tenses, Conversational Spanish in an academic setting is so different from that in a casual one. The speaker's particular dialects can be confusing, such as that of Brazil (with Dutch and Spanish influences) or Colombia (traditional Spanish dialect), etc. Spanish, in general, has many similarities to English/American vocabulary in other ways, however. The seemingly-effortless flow of sentences and phrases in Romance languages such as Spanish justify struggling through some of these difficulties. Romance languages sound meaningful and inspirational when spoken effortlessly.
