Confident, Clear Communication Starts Here!
First of all, why do you want to speak more quickly? I tell most of my clients to slow down unless they've been told that they speak too slowly, which in my experience is rare. But let's say your boss has said that you need to pick up the pace of your speech. Here are some steps to increase your speed.
- Pick a paragraph or two from a book, magazine or news article in the language you want to speed-up in..
- Set a baseline by timing yourself reading the paragraph(s) out loud and recording the time on your phone or other device; you can also record your time on paper the old fashioned way.
- Now, take the same paragraph(s) and increase your speed, timing it.
- Do step 3 at least three times, recording your speed each time.
When you become comfortable speeding up your time reading, pick phrases or sentences that you want to master, and use the same steps discussed above but speaking the phrases out loud, not reading them.
