Is watching YouTube better than movies or TV shows to improve English?

I would say in general, no, but it depends on what you watch on YouTube. A lot of YouTube is made by people who are not worried about using proper English. Also, the clips tend to be fairly short, so you have less context to help you figure out what is going on. However, if you were watching something like a TED talk, where they are using proper English, that could be helpful.
