Kinship just means the rules that tell you whether or not someone is considered "family" within a certain culture/group. So, that can include biological relatedness AND cultural things or actions like when someone marries into a family. One of the big things to note here is that kinship dictates so many things in society- including who you are allowed to marry (if two people are considered kin, even if they are not biologically related, they shouldn't get married).
