The total amount of students is 5,069. Here is a trick to finding that it, all you need to understand is that if 1/9th of the students are absents, this means that 4,512 student that were present are 8/9ths of the student population. So having x be the total number of students the equation would look like this ( .89x= 4,512). What you would do then is divide .89 by both sides and it will give you the answer.
