This is an example of considering your sources. Generally speaking, it is a good idea to review other on-line resources other than those found on answer.yahoo.com.
Consuming distilled water on a regular basis will not cause immediate death. In poverty-stricken parts of the world, drinking distilled water is the only safe option. However, as distilled water contains no minerals, drinking only distilled water will mineral deficits and acidosis. Therefore, individuals who only drink distilled are recommended to eat a diet with the the needed minerals.
As far as I am concerned, there has been a scientific study done to determine if distilled water causes blood cells to burst. I am sure this is observed in a laboratory setting but not in human studies(due to ethical concerns).
For what amount of distilled water causes death, consuming a large amount of distilled water is not in itself a problem. The problem is the consumption of any large amount of water, which is a serious condition called water intoxication and has led to several deaths. There was one documented death of a woman in Sacramento, California, who died from drinking two gallons of water in three hours for an on-air contest. Referring to this woman's hourly consumption, death would occur after drinking over 2 liter of any type of water per hour.
