Visually different in many ways, Klee and Brancusi's depictions of birds were created in the early 1920s. Klee used watercolor, pen, and ink. Brancusi used marble. Notably, birds often represent the soul or our thoughts. Brancusi's work illustrates an idea of a bird through form and insinuation of motion leaving for an encouraging interpretation. One can observe ominous in Klee's painting. Comparing individuality against collectivism by referencing machinery is a commonality in some artworks.
