A water molecule displays polarity by having negative and positive ends.
Explaining this a bit further, the partial negative charge lies near the oxygen atom and the partial positive near the hydrogen atoms. Due to this charge difference, a water molecule is called a dipole. This polarity gives water many of its unique characteristics such as the ability to form hydrogen bonds between other water molecules, cohesion properties, and the ability of other ions/molecules to dissolve in water.
