If your goal is to obtain at least 4/6 yards of ribbon you need to decide which pieces are suitable to cover the need
First rule out the pieces that are too small
Second determine if an of the small pieces added together will cover the need
For example
6/6 yards is 1 yard
4/4 yards is 1 yard
5/6 yard
All are larger but each covers the need
With the pieces that are left over use 6, some suitable LCD, or other means to find out which pieces are useful
For example
3/8 versus 4/6 we know that 4/6 is greater than 1/2 but 3/8 is less than 1/2 so 3/8 is not useful
Using a LCD for 6 and 8
3/8 = 9/24 and 4/6 = 16/24 so again 3/8 is too small
Using a LCD of 6 for the next two fractions left
1/2 yard = 3/6 yard
1/3 yard = 2/6 yard
So 3/8, 1/2, 1/3 are too small as individual pieces BUT
Two of the small pieces together would cover the need
5/6 yard is enough to cover the need
Since
1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6 yard these two small pieces also cover the need.
The two 1 yard pieces (6/6 and 4/4) also cover the need
