now, if by "without education" is meant without formal training, that is a different story
To be an art critic one only needs a love of art, keen observation skills, the desire and the drive to engage in the open discussion of ideas, a capacity for putting ones thoughts in writing and a platform (publication, blog etc) to express ones ideas. An academic title confers is a readymade stamp of approval, a necessary one in the job market today. This, assuming that the following question will be can one make a living as an art critic without formal training? the answer to that is a different colored horse.
