John Calhoun, Andrew Jackson's Vice-President, thoroughly opposed the Tariff of Abominations, a protectionist tariff passed during Jackson's administration to protect Northern manufacturers from cheaper imports from countries such as Britain (after War of 1812). The South strongly opposed this tariff. Calhoun called it the Tariff of Abominations (not Bank of Abominations) because it prevented the South from selling its cash crop, cotton, to Britain. I guess the Bank of Abominations, therefore, is the proper answer when considering the protectionist tariff.
