I think you may have concepts of axons and synapses confused. Just because the axon may go to one direction doesn't mean it is limited to one synapse with another neuron. In fact, it is rare for a neuron to synapse only one other neuron. There can be many dendrite per axon that synapse with many neurons at a junction. A neuron is limited to the neurons adjacent to it (for example a neuron that is local to the cerebellum would not synapse directly with a neuron in the sacral region of the spinal cord).
