The pons is located above the medulla oblongata and below the midbrain. It helps to bridge the cerebellum and cerebrum (2 parts of the brain). There are specific nerves that originate here: the trigeminal nerve (which is responsible for sensation of the face and muscles of the face), the abducens nerve(motor control of the eyes), facial nerve (muscles of facial expression), and the vestibulocochlear nerve (sends sound information from the ear to the brain). It also helps control automatic processes such as the control of breathing and sleep.
