Hello Shelbie! For me a personal strategy that I used is breaking down everything into systems. For whatever area you are studying, start with the big picture of that system and work towards breaking it down to the smallest details that make that system function. Then based on the depth to which you need to learn a certain subject (based on your course of study) you can gauge how "in the weeds" you get with the fine details.
