Long overdue in Italian?

How does one say that something is **long overdue** in Italian? For instance, is it correct to say something like "Fa molto tempo che sia in attesa"?

Fa molto tempo che sia in attesa, is wrong, it does not mean much, in order to provide the right translation of LONG OVERDUE it should be included in a sentence of complete meaning, as standalone could have multiple translations.
