The tree of good and evil, in the book of Genesis, is actually the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve lived without sin (or without any evil) they only knew what was good. The tree respresents what it means to understand and experience BOTH goodness and evil. Adam and Eve were not content only knowing and experiencing a world filled with only good. They were curious (and wanted to be like God) and wanted to know what was evil. Today there is evil in the world because man wants to sin- to experience it and to know it. The tree represents what man desired from the beginning. It’s cool to think that even while God created Adam, God knew that Adam would sin and that the whole world would be filled with evil. Yet God still made him because he loved him and wanted a relationship with the world. Wow.
